No. 2: Cornerback Patrick Peterson

Patrick Peterson is a throwback No. 1 corner, a player who will travel with the team’s best receiver. Now that the 49ers acquired Emmanuel Sanders, Peterson will likely work to lock him down.

Because the 49ers tend to not use wide receivers heavily in the offense, one could argue Peterson’s impact would be diminished by factors outside of his control.

But players like Peterson make an impact however they can.

Jimmy Garoppolo has been consistent throughout this season, always throwing one bad interception off a terrible read. It’s very likely that Peterson can bait Jimmy G into that bad throw.

Beyond that, Peterson truly would take away a facet of the Niners offense. No matter how large or small that is, that forces a coach to adjust.
