No. 3: The 49ers Run Game

The 49ers run game has been the best in the NFL this season. The Niners are currently leading the NFL in rushing yards per game with 200. Two-hundred. That means, on average, the 49ers have run the ball the length of the football field twice every game.

The 49ers running backs have been unstoppable, with all four on the roster, Matt Breida, Tevin Coleman, Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson, putting up monstrous numbers in the run game. The Rams are currently ranked 15th in the NFL for opponents’ rushing yards per game, so they shouldn’t be able to be the first team to stop the Niners’ rushing attack this season.

Now, there is reason to be concerned about the 49ers run game this week. The Niners are missing three main components of their rushing attack with left tackle Joe Staley, right tackle Mike McGlinchey and fullback Kyle Juszczyk all being injured.

All three of these players are key blockers for the Niners, and have had huge contributions to the 49ers’ success running the ball this season. However, the 49ers should be able to overcome this. Their rushing scheme has been so good, that head coach Kyle Shanahan should be able to scheme his way around these injuries. But more on that later.

Expect to see some creative uses of various players in the fullback spot, and tight end George Kittle taking on lots of blocking responsibilities in the run game.

And most importantly, expect to see the 49ers run all over the field once again.
