Stock up: QB Jimmy Garoppolo

No one canargue that Garoppolo has played “lights out” at the quarterback position this year. Garoppolo struggled in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccanneers, and he’s thrown four interceptions in just three games. But despite that, his stock is on the rise.

More from SF 49ers News

The first and obvious reason why his stock is up is Garoppolo is still coming back from a torn ACL sustained last year. The 49ers torrid start to the season has made many pundits and fans forget how Jimmy G still needs to get settled in after his knee injury. However, Garoppolo has been able to avoid pressure and stand tall in the pocket to make the big throw, and that’s all the evidence needed to show that he trusts his knee now.

Apart from the recovery aspect, Garoppolo has been everything the 49ers offense has needed. When the run game was clicking against the Bengals, he sat back after play action and tore their defense apart. When the offensive line struggled a bit against the Steelers, he stood in, largely unfazed by the pressure and led the offense for a win.

Garoppolo isn’t perfect, nor will he ever be. He is, though, clearly improved from last year and still only has two losses in his professional career.
