Stock down: Injured players

Other injured players, like long-time starting left tackle Joe Staley and slot receiver Trent Taylor, cannot make the same claim. Taylor’s injury has given other wide receivers the opportunity to amass yards and receptions, and for a player who many hoped could quickly return to action, being placed on injured reserve further dampens the mood.

Staley, on the other hand, will not be placed on injured reserve, even after sustaining a broken fibula. His injury situation still does create a lot of questions for the 49ers’ offensive line, including its long-term future. Could this injury be the reason Staley hangs his cleats up for the final time?

The reason Witherspoon isn’t in this grouping is due to how much better he has played compared to preseason expectations. But for Staley and Taylor, their stocks have to be down.
