5 takeaways from 49ers Week 2 demolition of Bengals
By James Jones
If you drafted tight end George Kittle in your fantasy league this season, you’re hard pressed to be happy with the returns. After two weeks, the all-time single-season receiving leader at his position has just 11 catches on 13 targets for 108 yards and no touchdowns.
It’s good the 49ers wins and losses aren’t contingent on fantasy scoring rules. Even though Kittle’s numbers aren’t on par with expected production, he has shown up huge in other aspects.

Run blocking, for example, might be Kittle’s favorite part of being a professional football player.
“I think I’ve said it a bunch of times, there’s nothing better than to move a man from point A to point B against his will,” he said. “And so when you do that, and you can do it multiple times, it’s a blast. So there are things that I don’t think I’ll ever let go away from me. The run game is something I take a lot of pride in because it’s a way to separate yourself from other people.”
What makes this even more gratifying is the third-year tight end has consistently graded out as one of the best blockers at the position.
“I do like the ball in my hands.” Said Kittle. “But if I can put a 300-pound dude on his back, that feels a lot better than catching a touchdown.”
Fear, not fantasy fans. It’s almost a certainty your stud tight end will get his catches, yards and touchdowns in 2019.
After two games last season he posted a line of 13 targets for seven catches, 112 yards with no touchdowns. We all know what happened from Week 3 and beyond.
