The San Francisco 49ers opened preseason football with a 17-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. The 49ers performed well overall across the board, with some players standing out for better or worse.

It sure is nice to have football back isn’t it? Especially San Francisco 49ers football.

And it was a welcome return as well, as the 49ers bested the Dallas Cowboys 17-6 in Week 1 of the NFL preseason. Beating the rival Cowboys is always welcome, even if it technically doesn’t count.

As with all preseason games, performances need to be taken with a grain of salt. However we still have some players fighting for either starting roles or roster spots in general who impressed, and those who did not.

The main story that played out this week for the 49ers was how the backups and practice squad hopefuls would stack up, especially early on. The team ultimately rested or ruled out 30 players (mostly starters) while the Cowboys elected to field their starters for a short time.

We saw some highs, we saw some lows and we saw so many penalty flags that fans were probably considering sneaking onto the field to steal their flags so the refs would stop throwing them.

As a note, please don’t do that, because it can’t be guaranteed you won’t get into a lot of trouble.

But I digress, so let’s look at players who are either stock up or stock down after the first preseason game of the year.
