With the San Francisco 49ers’ 2019 installment of OTAs and mandatory minicamp complete, Niner Noise revisits the team’s 53-man roster bubble watch for Week 1 of the regular season.

The San Francisco 49ers are officially off until their 2019 training camp kicks off in late July, as the team wrapped up mandatory minicamp this week following three additional weeks of organized team activities.

Granted, the pads have yet to come on. There is also no tackling. No contact, either. So it’s quite difficult to completely gauge which players on the team’s current 90-man offseason roster will make the cut once the final 53 are announced just ahead of Week 1 of the regular season.

That said, there were certainly risers and fallers during both OTAs and mandatory minicamp.

Wide receiver Jordan Matthews was one such player. Signed to a one-year free-agent deal during the offseason, Matthews’ spot on the 53-man roster was anything but guaranteed. But after making more than a handful of splash plays, his stock value has certainly increased.

There are other players in that mix, too.

With these practice sessions now in the books, and over a month until the players take the field again in training camp, Niner Noise revisits the bubble-watch projections and takes a look at where each player stands in regards to his chances for making the cut. As per usual, we’ll break it down into four categories:

  • Lock
  • Strong Bubble
  • Weak Bubble
  • Long Shot

Let’s kick this thing off by looking at some of the specialists on special teams, where there’s already drama this offseason, unfortunately.
