San Francisco 49ers: 5 players who increased stock value at mandatory minicamp
By Peter Panacy
The San Francisco 49ers saw a number of players showcase their abilities and increase value during this week’s mandatory minicamp. Here are five such players.
The San Francisco 49ers kicked off their 2019 mandatory minicamp this week, which is essentially little more than a non-optional portion of organized team activities.
Still, these sessions are vital in helping head coach Kyle Shanahan and co determine the pecking order and potential depth chart ahead of training camp later this summer.
And by numerous accounts, there were a few standouts from this week’s practices.
They’re not finished, of course. But the media was on hand for Tuesday and Wednesday’s practice sessions, and a number of key players managed to impress. A few of them are looking to bounce back from otherwise disappointing or forgettable 2018 campaigns, so the thought of those particular guys impressing early is promising.
Here are five players who did a lot to increase that stock value during minicamp.
No. 5: Wide Receiver Trent Taylor
One of those players looking to bounce back after a forgettable 2018 is third-year wide receiver Trent Taylor.
Taylor, who dealt with a back injury for much of last season, seems to have found his stride again with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The two established a particular third-down chemistry during Taylor’s 2017 rookie season.
Garoppolo regularly targeted Taylor during 7-on-7 drills, according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan, and the prospects for a fully healthy season from the receiver have caught Shanahan’s attention:
Following his disappointing 2018 effort, some may have thought Taylor would be in danger of losing out on a roster spot entering this season.
So far, it’s looking more as if Taylor will reclaim his starting job as the 49ers’ top receiver out of the slot.
