Honorable mentions

There certainly are a lot of players that need bounce back years, so many I thought it worth going through and highlighting them with a brief reason why.

Marquise Goodwin

Personal issues and injuries derailed wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, and it’ll hopefully be a new season for him, where he can enjoy playing football and mesh with the receivers the team has brought in, which should allow him to play more of a specialized deep-threat role.

Weston Richburg

Brought in to help shore up the interior line, center Weston Richburg was less than stellar with his new team. Hopefully his second year will be better than the first.

Solomon Thomas

This will be the big break defensive end Solomon Thomas is looking for, as the team will look to move him inside where he’s the best fit. Can he replicate what he did at Stanford, which caused the 49ers to take him with the third overall selection back in 2017?

Arik Armstead

With his option picked up, defensive tackle Arik Armstead is almost definitely assured at least one more year at the 49ers. The new additions on the defensive line will cut into his playing time, but he may still yet carve out a good rotational role.

Nick Bosa

EDGE Nick Bosa is coming to the 49ers with all the hype you would expect, but there were some who didn’t like his decision to sit out of the latter part of Ohio State’s season. Bosa will have to bounce back from the end of his college career to show the doubters what he brings to the pro level.

Jason Verrett

Cornerback Jason Verrett is incredibly talented but incredibly injury prone. Both the 49ers and Verrett himself want nothing more than a healthy season from him at his full, talented self.

Jimmie Ward

It’s defensive back Jimmie Ward. Of course he has to try to bounce back. His career may depend on it.

Adrian Colbert

What looked a possible home-run steal at safety in the 2017 NFL Draft, turned into the dreaded sophomore slump. Adrian Colbert has talent beyond where he was drafted, but the question will be can he compete with the other 49ers looking to start there at training camp?
