No. 2: Linebacker Kwon Alexander

The only new 49er on our list, linebacker Kwon Alexander comes into the fold with a lot of expectation and a lot of money behind him.

With a torn ACL last year interrupting a continuation of his promising career, the contract the 49ers gave him to defect to San Francisco raised some eyebrows when he signed a four-year deal valued at $54 million.

We now know this contract to be significantly team friendly, with it pretty much boiling down to a deal for this season only, with the 49ers being able to part ways if this isn’t a good match. Otherwise the deal will seem like money well spent if he continues his play before his injury.

And why shouldn’t he? The 49ers have a potential star next to him in Fred Warner, and a beefed-up defensive line in front of him.

Alexander may have an understandably slow start, as he gets used to playing again. But he should be able to help beef up one of the weaker positional groups the 49ers have.

It’s his chance to show that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers let a real talent go, and a chance to show he can bounce back and be one of the new defensive stars for the Niners.
