If the New Orleans Saints were in win-now mode the past two years, 2019 is only going to highlight the urgency after back-to-back seasons with arguably the most heartbreaking playoff exits in recent memory.

But that shouldn’t change NFL power rankings at all.

One has to wonder, of course, if future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees is finally going to hit that year in which his numbers take a massive hit. They’ve been down the past couple of seasons, as the Saints have looked to be a more-balanced team with running back Alvin Kamara shouldering bigger loads.

Brees gets the bonus of having veteran tight end Jared Cook in the mix. He and wide receiver Michael Thomas are easily New Orleans’ best two offensive weapons through the air, and Brees will need them both. There’s not a lot of depth behind them.

The Saints replaced retired center Max Unger with Texas A&M’s Erik McCoy, which was a good find and much needed, too.

But with only four picks in the drat (remember, the Saints were going all in over the past two seasons), depth could end up being a concern if health plays a negative factor.

Still, there’s not a whole lot wrong with the Saints entering 2019. As long as Brees remains effective and Kamara supports him on the ground, New Orleans should still be a favorite to reach the Super Bowl.

They hold onto the No. 2 spot in post-draft NFL power rankings.
