The 49ers’ final selection in the 2019 NFL Draft came in the sixth round, as San Francisco drafted University of Virginia cornerback Tim Harris. Harris was known to be on the Niners radar after he visited the team on a pre-draft visit last month.

That information was first reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo:

Harris is the type of raw developmental project you would expect a team to draft with their final selection. The cornerback has shown he has the physical skills needed to play at the next level, which makes him a perfect pick for a 49ers team searching for a long-term answer at the important position:

Harris does come with his share of durability concerns after a pair of injuries hampered his play during the 2015 season, and ended his 2016 and 2017 seasons prematurely. Since the cornerback lost extensive playing time due to injury over the course of his college career, he was allowed to return for a sixth season in 2018.

It’s been a long road for Harris, but given his athleticism and his persistence, he has the potential for a long career in the NFL.

Grade: B
