San Francisco elected to double down on its wide receiver reinforcement following the Round 2 selection of Deebo Samuel.

This time, it’s Baylor’s Jalen Hurd finding his way to the 49ers at No. 67 overall.

Hurd, 6-foot-5 and 226 pounds, is the size mismatch the Niners weren’t getting out of Samuel. And before he transferred to Baylor, the University of Tennessee certainly found unique ways to use him:

After converting from running back to wide receiver, most of Hurd’s action at Baylor was primarily out of the slot. Yet with a number of capable slot receivers already on the 49ers roster, it’s likely Kyle Shanahan will look to put him outside.

Perhaps even as a No. 2 complementary tight end to Pro Bowler George Kittle.

This could be seen as Shanahan revamping his entire receiving corps, however, and it looks as if training camp battles at this position will be pretty interesting.

The 49ers could have focused a bit more on defense here, and there are concerns in the secondary. But if Hurd winds up being a bona fide playmaker, fans shouldn’t care too much.
