Pick No. 3 to 5: Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle, Alabama

While I won’t make a habit of discussing trade partners, as that’s way too much guesswork, I will point out the most likely suitor in this situation is the Oakland Raiders.

Niner Noise highlighted before the possibility of a trade, if the rumors of the Raiders wanting to part with quarterback Derek Carr are accurate.

Raiders general manager Mike Mayock certainly did not do much to put out these rumors.

If they trade with the 49ers, this certainly makes it interesting because the Arizona Cardinals will likely go QB at No. 1. So if the Raiders go QB at No. 2, that hands the two best prospects to the New York Jets and 49ers with a pretty little bow wrapped around it.

This is literally the dream for San Francisco. Get a ransom from their Bay Area (for now) rivals to trade down, and get a guy it would take at No. 2 anyway.

I believe, in this situation, the Jets take Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa, and the Niners will sprint to hand in their draft card for Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.

I’ve written entire articles how Williams would be an incredible person to pair with defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, and I haven’t been alone on this site.

The argument the 49ers have selected interior linemen in the past is irrelevant; the pick must be the person who will help the team the most, and in this scenario it is definitely Williams.

While Bosa is the majority consensus for the best player, you can certainly make an argument for Williams as well.

The 49ers have reportedly got a crush on Williams, this would be the top scenario for the team in the draft.

They could also consider

Walter Football has reported the Jets like Kentucky EDGE/OLB Josh Allen, so it’s a small possibility that Bosa could be available and the Niners take him here.

On the other hand, it’s possible the Raiders could trade up to take Bosa themselves, and the Jets take Williams (which is possible given his talent). Allen could be the pick for the 49ers, if that’s the case.
