Round 3, Pick 67: EDGE Jachai Polite

Hear me out. Yes, Florida EDGE Jachai Polite vocally bashed the 49ers during the combine. Yes, he had some of the worst testing numbers of a edge player. And yes, he did nothing to improve on those issues at his pro day.

But with a third-round pick and a need still there for the 49ers, this is a perfect opportunity to take a chance on a player who could pay huge dividends for the Niners.

USA Today detailed the specific failures of Polite’s combine. But the tape shows a player who has the ability to change the game, albeit in a limited role:

Lance Zierlein was not as high on Polite as many were before the combine, but he does offer “frightening speed to the edge on tape.” For every workout warrior, there is a workout flop, but the underwear athletes aren’t always the players you want on your team.

Polite may never be the star that people thought he could be before the combine, but he may be the situational pass-rusher the 49ers are looking for.
