Round 2, Pick 38: WR N’Keal Harry

There is a lot of commenting about who the 49ers should select in the second round, but given the selections before, the pick will likely be a wide receiver.

Now there are a bevy of wide receivers in the draft, but noted draft expert Daniel Jeremiah expects a large drop in the draft.

As much as the tape may indicate that, the NFL in its pass-heavy form, makes sure the 49ers won’t be able to select the upper-echelon prospects with their second-round pick.

One wide receiver prospect that makes a lot of sense for the Niners is N’Keal Harry, the star pass catcher from Arizona State. Harry possesses quality speed and size, making him a surefire hit with San Francisco.

Jeremy Wolfhart broke down Harry, stating:

"First and foremost, the best attribute that Harry possesses is his hands. He has the ability to make adjustments in the air as well as take contested catches. His strength helps in this regard, too, as he muscles the ball off defensive backs who often can’t match his power."

For a 49ers team that has struggled with drops for every year under head coach Kyle Shanahan, a secure handler is a massive blessing.

Harry also has the size and athletic capacity to become a major factor in the red zone, even though he wasn’t one in college.

Most wide receivers coming out of college don’t have the extensive route skills that top technicians in the NFL possess. However, under the tutelage of new coaches Wes Welker and Miles Austin, Harry’s raw skill could become something much bigger and better.
