Richard Sherman as Davos Seaworth

Switching sides is a pretty common theme in Game of Thrones, and the 49ers have more than one example of a player going from a hated rival to a beloved organization.

Such is the case for veteran cornerback Richard Sherman, a long-time member of the Seattle Seahawks and a former arch nemesis of every Niners fan.

In reality, though, 49ers fans simply couldn’t root for the Seahawks under any circumstances, whereas rooting for Sherman became easy once his former employer betrayed him and let him go after such long, devoted service.

It’s not unlike what happened to GoT’s Davos Seaworth, who was a loyal adviser to the man who thought he was the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, Stannis Baratheon.

And like the Seahawks, it’s impossible to root for Stannis.

Stannis relied on Davos aplenty during the first few seasons of GoT, of course, yet one could see how there was tension brewing between the two, especially as the former began flirting more and more with his obsession of taking the Iron Throne.

All that led to Davos departing, finding his way from the dreary, seafaring ways and into greener pastures.

Like Davos, Sherman is now tasked with mentoring and developing younger would-be leaders within the graces of Levi’s Stadium.
