Kyle Shanahan as Robb Stark

The “Young Wolf.”

Perhaps that’s the moniker 49ers fans could have assigned to head coach Kyle Shanahan in the wake of the team’s massive turmoil and dysfunction stemming from the 2016 campaign.

Shanahan is following a similar path as his father, long-time head coach Mike Shanahan, and the two have similar styles, schemes and play designs.

It’s not far removed from Eddard Stark and his son, Robb.

Robb wound up being the King of the North, of course, campaigning against his Lannister enemies in the south of Westeros. Kyle Shanahan, perhaps, will look to be the King of the North…ern California region?

OK, that’s a reach. But with a budding rivalry between the 49ers and Los Angeles Rams, the geographical comparisons make sense.

What makes even more sense is the tactical-planning abilities both Shanahan and Robb Stark display, the former on the offensive side of the gridiron, while Stark managed to best his enemies with far fewer troops, using strategy and scheme over brute strength and numbers.

Let’s just hope Shanahan politely declines any invitations to Red Weddings, accepting only those donning red and gold colors instead.
