Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner as The Mountain and The Hound

Niner Noise kicks off the 2018 version of 49ers comparisons with Game of Thrones rehashing a carryover from the last time we did this.

The comparison, of course, lists two brothers from the University of Oregon, defensive tackles DeForest Buckner and Arik Armstead.

OK, the two aren’t actually brothers. But they’re awfully close. Like, literally.

In the series, Sandor Clegane, better known as The Hound, and Ser Gregor Clegane, known as The Mountain, aren’t close and are poised to have some epic battle in which the younger Clegane brother will look to get revenge against his half-dead elder sibling.

Paired up on the battlefield, however, the Clegane boys would be a fearsome duo against any opponent, despite the rivalry, and would immediately make any army better because of it.

Interestingly enough, both Buckner and Armstead were the Niners’ two best defenders last year, according to Pro Football Focus.

Perhaps both Buckner and Armstead will have something of a friendlier rivalry on the gridiron battlefield this season, which would certainly benefit San Francisco.

Oh, and we’ve got to give Niners Nation’s Rob Lowder a hat tip for this particular comparison.
