Niners Still In on Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr.?

Unlike the pass-rush department, NFL free agency won’t provide teams too many choices at wide receiver. Perhaps the biggest names are Golden Tate and Tyrell Williams of the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers, respectively. Yet they’re likely going to command top dollar on the open market, which could deter San Francisco.

More from Niner Noise

With no 49ers wide receiver cresting more than 500 receiving yards in 2018, it would make sense Kyle Shanahan would want to upgrade this spot.

One of the names linked to the Niners this offseason is New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

According to CBS Sports Jason La Canfora, the 49ers, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders were the teams most closely interested in Beckham’s services. With Antonio Brown going to Oakland, however, one would assume now just the Browns and Niners are in the mix.

The question, though, is what it would take for San Francisco to execute such a move.

New York is set to pick at No. 6 overall in April’s draft. The 49ers, who hold the No. 2 overall pick, could trade down with the Giants. But that alone likely wouldn’t be enough to land Beckham — a three-time Pro Bowler who is still just 26 years old.

Plus, why would the Giants want to move Beckham, one of their best offensive weapons, anyway?

Yet there’s always the possibility, and Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller suggested the Niners are very much in the hunt, still:
