49ers trying to trade Earl Mitchell

Probably nothing will come of this. But according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the 49ers are shopping veteran nose tackle Earl Mitchell:

The Niners elected not to pick up the 2019 option on the 31-year-old Mitchell after two years in San Francisco, thanks largely to the emergence of 2017 rookie nose tackle D.J. Jones, who’ll likely assume the starting job this season.

Mitchell is still on the roster, however, so it appears as if San Francisco is trying to get something before he hits the open free-agent market this week.

Considering other teams know he’ll hit the market, don’t expect the Niners to receive any sort of trade offer for one of John Lynch’s first acquisitions after taking over GM duties back in 2017.
