San Francisco 49ers: Post-scouting combine 2019 NFL Draft mock
By Peter Panacy
Like safety, the 49ers could afford to bring in depth and long-term additions at cornerback this offseason, too.
Veteran corner Richard Sherman is set, but two-year pro Ahkello Witherspoon needs to bounce back from a forgettable 2018 effort. And fellow defensive back Tarvarius Moore is still very early in his transition to the position from safety.
That might tempt the Niners to wait until the later stages of the draft to grab a cornerback.

Still, depth and some developmental prospects would be nice here. And while a Round 6 pickup certainly doesn’t look the part of a bona fide starter, finding a player to groom for when Sherman departs would be smart.
At 6-foot-1 and 207 pounds, USC’s Iman Lewis-Marshall looks the part of a 49ers boundary safety, although his technique and form are raw and need refinement. There are also some questions about his straight-line speed, but at least he ran a halfway-decent 4.53 40-yard time during his combine workouts. That’s not terrific, but it shouldn’t hurt his draft stock.
As a flier, Lewis-Marshall would appear to be a nice addition to a 49ers secondary in need of depth. The apparent lack of recovery skills could also make him a candidate to support depth at safety, too.
The 2019 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 25 from Nashville, Tennessee.
