2019 NFL Draft: 5 options for the 49ers’ Round 2 pick
By Peter Panacy
No 49ers wide receiver had more than 500 receiving yards in 2018. And while last year’s rookie, Dante Pettis, looks to be a promising addition to Kyle Shanahan’s offense, he’ll at least need some help moving forward.
The good news is the 2019 NFL Draft is pretty deep with tall, big-bodied wide receivers with more to their respective skill sets than just size.

San Francisco could go one of a number of different directions here, even at pick No. 36 overall. But perhaps a possibility at wide receiver more likely than the others is South Carolina’s Deebo Samuel, who played on Shanahan’s South team during the 2019 Senior Bowl and flashed plenty of promise in the week’s practices leading up to the game itself.
At 6-foot-0 and 210 pounds, Samuel isn’t massive, per se. But he showed some exceptional speed during Senior Bowl practices. He also had more than a few one-on-one breakaways, showing his separation and excellent footwork.
Those are going to be traits more to Shanahan’s liking than sheer size.
Again, the Niners could go with one of a number of different wideouts, if that’s the direction they choose in Round 2.
But considering Shanahan got to observe Samuel up close and personally, that could be the edge the South Carolina product needs to land in San Francisco.
The 2019 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 25 from Nashville, Tennessee.
