Pick No. 2: Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State

Previous: Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State

Some might accuse me of putting the player I want to pick here as opposed to a player that will be available, but there are some reasons to think the Arizona Cardinals may not go with the best player in the draft with their top pick.

More from SF 49ers Draft

There has been plenty of talk of the Cardinals trading the top overall selection, even from players within the organization itself. A team that needs a quarterback such as the New York Giants or the Jacksonville Jaguars may want to trade up, which would allow Ohio State EDGE Nick Bosa to fall into the San Francisco 49ers’ lap.

The Cardinals could also decide to find a complement to defensive lineman Chandler Jones instead of a successor, and take the equally impressive defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, from Alabama.

Nonetheless, I do believe the Cardinals will go in a different direction, which is a dream scenario for the 49ers.

Bosa fits seamlessly into the 49ers’ defense and will be a perfect partner with new Pro-Bowl defensive lineman DeForest Buckner. Bosa will allow the intriguing Cassius Marsh to have less attention placed on him when he rushes the passer from the opposite side of the line.

Make no mistake. If he is available, Bosa should be the Niners’ first pick.
