No. 2: Defensive End Solomon Thomas

He might have had a rough and unimpressive rookie season a year ago. But the 49ers’ top pick from the 2017 NFL Draft, defensive end Solomon Thomas, has looked exceptional in limited action this preseason so far.

More from SF 49ers News

Thomas combined for half a sack on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the Niners’ exhibition opener two weeks ago before suffering a concussion early in the game.

After missing last week’s preseason bout with the Texans, Thomas was able to clear to concussion protocol and returned to action in Indianapolis.

He made his mark too, registering three tackles, a quarterback hurry that led to a sack of Colts QB Andrew Luck and finished with an 88.8 overall game grade, per Pro Football Focus, which ranked best on San Francisco’s defense.

Along with fellow defensive lineman DeForest Buckner, Thomas is starting to emerge as the caliber of player the Niners were hoping for when they took him No. 3 overall in last year’s draft.

The two seemed poised to be problematic for opponents’ offenses this season in a major way.
