First we look to our own backyard, at FanSided, and the first 2019 NFL mock draft of the year.

Pick No. 22: Andraez Williams, Defensive Back, LSU

More from SF 49ers Draft

FanSided has the 49ers as a borderline playoff team at pick No. 22, and has them taking Andraez Williams.

They explain the pick by saying:

"While Sherman was a nice get this offseason, he is getting older, so the team should spend their first round pick on a cornerback. Greedy Williams from LSU is a dominant player at the position, and plays with the kind of fire you need from a top cornerback. The NFC West is going to be a solid division for a long time, and the 49ers need to make sure their defensive backfield is a priority if they want to be a contender to win it every year."

My take

Well, it’s a pretty interesting pick in terms of 2018 NFL Draft defensive back pickups Tarvarius Moore, Tarvarus McFadden and whether either of them shows enough promise to be the man worthy to play successor to veteran cornerback Richard Sherman.

Williams has some pretty nice stats, though, going for 38 tackles, six interceptions and 11 passes broken up for LSU. Another season like that, however, could push him well into the first half of the draft and outside the 49ers’ reach, assuming they do have pick No. 22.
