DraftAnalyst.com’s Tony Pauline (h/t Chris Biderman of Niners Wire) reported the 49ers have shown interest in Oklahoma State wide receiver Marcell Ateman.

Per Biderman, Ateman is likely a day-two pick — going in either Rounds 2 or 3, depending on his stock value.

That could easily change at the NFL Scouting Combine, as Pauline suggests he’ll run a sub-4.45 40-yard time, which would add speed to his massive 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame.

Speaking of that frame, adding Ateman would easily make the Oklahoma State product the tallest among San Francisco’s incumbent wide receivers. With a red-zone touchdown-efficiency rating of 47 percent last year (27th in the NFL), the Niners surely need someone to provide a go-to weapon within opponents’ 20-yard lines.

Equally important, though, head coach Kyle Shanahan loves speed, making Ateman a prospect to keep an eye on.
