Quarterback comparison

Jimmy Garoppolo is 1-0 as a starter for San Francisco, and the future may be bright

The Bay Area is buzzing. In his first full game since being acquired, it was the throws that Garoppolo made which has people excited.

Throughout the game versus the Bears, Garoppolo made unbalanced passes look painless and stepped up in a pressure-filled pocket with a calmness. Most importantly, he played fantastic when it mattered the most, leading a dramatic game-winning drive.

On the season, Garoppolo is 28-39 for 311 yards with one touchdown and one interception. As he gets more comfortable with the system, this offense could become entertaining to watch.

Since the injury to DeShaun Watson, the Texans are 1-4 with Tom Savage

It has been rough sailing for Savage, who is filling in for the hurt rookie. Houston has played five games since Watson went down, and it has not been pretty for the team.

Savage is 112-198 for 1,287 yards with five touchdowns and six interception in those five starts. To visualize the loss this offense sustained when Watson was injured — he threw for four touchdowns in the start prior to getting hurt.

The season was essentially lost with Watson’s ACL being torn, and it has played out that way in the aftermath. For Savage, it is an audition to the rest of the league as he is in the last year of his contract. And right now, that audition is being failed.
