Quarterback C.J. Beathard

C.J. Beathard’s injuries could actually wind up keeping him out of action in Week 13. He’s currently listed as questionable, but that’s only a part of the story here.

Sure, Beathard was coming off his best game as a pro — the Niners’ 31-21 win over the New York Giants two weeks ago. But the Seahawks defense is vastly superior to anything the Giants could muster, and that proved to be a major difference maker on Sunday.

Beathard’s line wasn’t very good. He was 22-of-38 for 201 yards and an interception (not exactly his fault) for a passer rating of 61.4. And while he didn’t benefit from adequate pass protection up front, there were certainly instances where he held onto the ball for far too long.

More from Niner Noise

Pocket presence has never been Beathard’s thing anyway.

It’s pretty clear the Niners want Garoppolo to be the guy down the road. So, in a way, Beathard is the team’s placeholder, much like former 49ers QB Brian Hoyer was earlier this season.

This isn’t an enviable position, and Beathard’s injury status only serves to hasten the eventual change under center.
