Safety Eric Reid

Eric Reid’s interception on Seattle’s first play from scrimmage could have set the tone for the 49ers if they had taken advantage of it.

Instead, the Niners went 3-and-out and immediately lost any momentum gained from the turnover.

Reid, however, was one of the better San Francisco contributors over the game, finishing with a team-leading seven tackles and the lone Niners defensive takeaway.

It’s weird to think Reid, still playing on his rookie contract, is the elder statesman of the 49ers defense. To date, Pro Football Focus has Reid graded with a respectable 75.2 overall mark — second highest within the Niners secondary behind cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (78.8).

Reid is set to hit free agency this offseason, so the Niners have a decision to make here. Efforts like his in Week 12 could prompt a tougher choice, though, as Reid clearly saw his stock rise in this contest.
