Cardinals vs. 49ers: Full Week 9 preview for San Francisco
Significant injuries
As the season progresses, the number of hurt players continues to pile up for the 49ers. Recently, the team has lost defensive lineman Arik Armstead (broken hand) to a season-ending injury.
Now two more members are joining, with wide receiver Pierre Garçon being placed on injured reserve after he hurt his neck against the Eagles. Per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, Garçon has a “a non-displaced fracture of the c 5 pedicle, which is a small piece of bone in the neck located just below the skull.” The type of injury Garçon suffered usually takes eight weeks to heal.
Safety Jimmie Ward (broken forearm) is also headed to injured reserve. Like Garçon and Staley, Ward was hurt in the game against the Eagles.
On a more positive note, it looks like offensive lineman Trent Brown is going to return this week after missing time with a concussion. Here is the full list of injuries, via Wagoner:
"Out — WR Pierre Garçon, OT Joe Staley, DT D.J. Jones (knee), DE Aaron Lynch (calf), T Joe Staley (eye), DE Solomon Thomas (knee), CB K’Waun Williams (quadricep). Questionable — LB Reuben Foster (ribs)."
