Quarterback Brian Hoyer

Let’s face it, Brian Hoyer isn’t good.

All the talk of Hoyer understanding Kyle Shanahan’s offense has led to the NFL’s 29th-ranked quarterback, in terms of passer rating, ahead of Week 6. And Hoyer’s 45.3 rating from Sunday won’t help matters much either.

Hoyer was again a victim of overthrown passes and poor reads in Washington, finishing the day going 4-of-11 for just 34 yards.

On a number of third-down tries, Hoyer often attempted passes well short of the first-down marker, which easily reminded many fans and analysts of another former Niners quarterback incapable of throwing past the sticks.

Hoyer still has a role to play as a mentor, both this season and the next. But it’s highly likely we’ve seen the last of him starting in 2017.
