Safety Eric Reid

While it’s no fault of his own, safety Eric Reid’s stock took a hit in Week 2.

Due to injury, not anything else.

Reid apparently got his cleat stuck in the turf, causing a minor knee injury to his left leg. The 49ers medical staff checked him out, but Reid was able to get back into the game a few plays later. But he later came out again after re-aggravating the injury.

The former first-round pick will have an MRI on it this week to determine if it’s anything serious. On a good note, Reid later stated — via Eric Branch of SFGate.com — the knee only got to a point where he couldn’t run on it anymore.

So hopefully it’s nothing serious, especially considering Reid was having a solid game up to that point.

In his stead, the Niners dropped Jaquiski Tartt — who was also having a good game — down from free safety and placed defensive back Jimmie Ward, who missed Week 1 with a hamstring injury, in Tartt’s former spot.

This alignment works, although the ideal situation would be to have Reid back in the starting lineup.
