Right Tackle Trent Brown

Earlier this offseason, one might have wondered how good a fit right tackle Trent Brown was in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s outside-zone blocking scheme.

Brown is known more for his pass protection than his run blocking. But even this has been solid over two weeks of NFL action, as his 80.7 pass-blocking grade, per Pro Football Focus, indicates. Overall, Brown owns an 86.8 PFF grade — highest among all San Francisco offensive linemen.

And this stat, courtesy of PFF’s Jeff Deeney, is a nice one to chew on:

With the 49ers still needing a plethora of upgrades on both sides of the ball, including a number along the offensive line, it’s good to know Brown is coming into his own this season and developing into a reliable starting option up front.

San Francisco might have something special at right tackle after all.
