Defensive Tackle DeForest Buckner

Overall, the Niners defense had a pretty good showing in Week 2. The game’s closeness speaks to how well Robert Saleh’s group kept San Francisco in the game until the end.

Chief among the 49ers’ defensive contributors, of course, was defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.

Buckner finished the day with four tackles and three quarterback hits, as well as nine quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus (h/t Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area).

So it’s no surprise PFF awarded Buckner with a game ball, after the second-year pro posted a 90.5 game grade:

Buckner’s interior pass-rushing abilities have been something to watch this season, and he’s clearly a piece around which the Niners can build a defensive front.
