Fantasy Option No. 1: Running Back Carlos Hyde

Unlike many of the “maybe” options on this list, it’s highly likely running back Carlos Hyde puts up some notable fantasy football points in 2017.

Hyde missed rushing for 1,000 yards by a mere 12 last season, and injuries have always been a question for the 26 year old. But he’s also entering a contract year, which should provide plenty of motivation for a big contract in the following offseason.

This is reflected in CBS Sports’ fantasy projection, which has Hyde netting 136.2 points this upcoming season — No. 14 overall.

Hyde will also be pushed by rookie tailback Joe Williams. It’s probable Williams won’t start away, but he may take a number of snaps away from Hyde as the season rolls on.

This isn’t a bad thing necessarily. One of the knocks on Hyde has been his overuse, which has possibly caused the injuries that have hampered his career to date. With an adequate backup, Hyde should be able to stay fresh over the course of the season.

San Francisco’s offensive line was pretty abysmal in run support last year, but Hyde is also known for continuing runs after contact. So perhaps these offset a bit.

A mid-round pick sounds about right for Hyde, especially as a No. 2 tailback on your starting roster.

But be sure to keep an eye on his likely backup, Williams, as a potential replacement either due to injury or Hyde losing his starting job this season.
