If He Falls

Not many football minds out there in NFL land believe Myles Garrett will fall past the Browns without a trade partner willing to give up a lot of capital.

Unlike last year, there is no franchise quarterback perceived to be worthy of such a trade, and realistically, the Browns would be doing well to get what they got last year for the No. 2 pick.

Cleveland is even being publicly ridiculed for considering North Carolina QB Mitchel Trubisky with the top selection regardless of their immediate needs. If there was a situation that developed resulting in Garrett to fall to the 49ers with the No. 2 pick, it would inevitably be considered the steal of the draft until proven otherwise.

Many would say Garrett is the perfect fit in the new 4-3 under defensive scheme as the dedicated pass-rushing LEO. After looking everything over though, I’m not so sure.

John Lynch recently announced that the San Francisco 49ers were “open for business” in regards to hearing out any and all trade scenarios proposed from other teams. If Garrett did fall to the 49ers, the No. 2 pick would certainly be worth more than it was without his availability.

The new front office and coaching staff have long contracts and plenty of time to build this roster, adding picks in a talent-heavy draft year could go a long way to contending in the next three years. How much would Myles Garrett equate to versus two or even three high-caliber picks this year.

More from Niner Noise

Watching all these future NFL stars footage, I see incredible things from a lot of them. Garrett is impressive looking but seems to be a bit of a gamble all things considered. If San Francisco is smart, they use the “hype train” on him for whatever they can get out of it and build the team out of high character, versatile, smart players.

If you’re going to gamble on someone, make sure it is a person that you know will make everyone around them better, even if they aren’t the very best at one thing. Players that merely by their presence promote an atmosphere of intensity, effort and fundamental physicality on every snap.

Does Myles Garrett sound like this player?
