The San Francisco 49ers host the Seattle Seahawks in an NFC West bout to wrap up the 2016 regular season. With a slew of front-office changes on the horizon, Niner Noise has your Week 17 thread with scoring updates and comment section.

Amid the news from ESPN’s Adam Schefter late Saturday evening, reporting head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Trent Baalke will be fired, the San Francisco 49ers hosted the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17 to wrap up what has been a dreadful 2016 campaign.

The game had little meaning for the Niners, who could do no worse than a No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. But for Seattle, draft seeding was still on the line. A Seahawks win, paired with an Atlanta Falcons loss, would put Seattle at the No. 2 seed.

But the 49ers could thwart those chances with a win at Levi’s Stadium in Week 17.

San Francisco was going to be shorthanded, thanks to a plethora of injuries suffered in recent weeks.

And while much of the focus would be on Kelly’s likely last game with the team, it also could be the final contest for quarterback Colin Kaepernick in a Niners uniform as well.

So it’s fitting he went up against his longtime nemesis, the Seahawks.

Stay with Niner Noise as we provide you all the in-game updates and analysis throughout this NFC West contest. And be sure to chime in on the comments section by scrolling down to the bottom of the page.

First Quarter

San Francisco started on offense. And Kaepernick fumbled on an attempted handoff on the second offensive snap of the game.

Seattle took over, thanks to a Bobby Wagner recovery.

This led to a 31-yard field goal from Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka to put Seattle up 3-0.

Receptions by 49ers wideouts DeAndre Smelter and Jeremy Kerley moved San Francisco into Seattle territory. And running back Shaun Draughn hauled in a pass to move the offense to the 4-yard line.

Draughn subsequently rushed it in for a one-yard touchdown run.

The Niners defense managed to a force a 3-and-out the following drive.

San Francisco’s offense got back into Seattle territory the next possession. Facing 4th-and-1 though, Draughn attempted to convert on the fourth-down attempt and got it by about an inch. Seriously.

Seattle’s defense managed to hold the Niners’ red-zone efforts into a 4th-and-goal scenario to close out the first quarter.

Second Quarter

Going for it again, Draughn managed to get back into the end zone to put the Niners up 14-3.

The Seahawks managed to get their first elongated offensive drive going and moved into the Niners red zone.

San Francisco’s defense managed to hold though and forced another field goal from Hauschka to cut the 49ers lead to 14-6.

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner ensured the subsequent 49ers drive wouldn’t get off to an easy start. But Kaepernick found rookie wideout Aaron Burbridge for a key first-down conversion on third down to continue the Niners drive.

But Harris ended up fumbling on the following snap. Seattle recovered and managed to return the ball all the way into the red zone.

And the Seahawks made it hurt with an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Russell Wilson to tight end Luke Willson. 14-13 in favor of the 49ers.

The Niners’ following drive petered out at midfield, ending in a punt. Seemingly all the momentum had swung back in Seattle’s favor.

And that momentum continued when Wilson found Seahawks wideout Doug Baldwin for a big pickup and one that injured rookie cornerback Rashard Robinson.

Robinson needed help off the field, adding to the long list of Niners injuries this season.

Shortly thereafter, Wilson found tight end Jimmy Graham at the 49ers’ 1-yard line for a huge pickup and a chance for Seattle to take the lead.

Seattle did on the following play, a one-yard touchdown from running back Thomas Rawls.

49ers defensive end Chris Jones managed to get a hand on the ensuing extra-point attempt, but the Seahawks managed to take a 19-14 lead.

The Seahawks managed to force a fumble, although the Niners recovered, just after the two-minute warning. This ended any San Francisco hopes to retake the lead before halftime.

Seattle still had to punt with 36 seconds left before the half.

Third Quarter

The Seahawks opened up on offense to start the second half. Despite giving up a first down, the Niners defense managed to force a punt on what initially looked like a fumble by Wilson.

Kelly challenged the play but ended up losing.

Kaepernick ended up being sacked on third down — the fourth time of the game — forcing another 49ers punt.

Wilson and the Seahawks offense quickly moved into San Francisco’s red zone. But under pressure from rookie defensive end Ronald Blair, Wilson couldn’t find a target and the Seahawks had to settle for a field goal.

Seattle increased its lead 22-14.

The Niners went 3-and-out the following drive and were forced to punt, again showing issues with a second-half offense. Yet San Francisco’s defense also managed to force a 3-and-out too.

But the game got interesting, as Seattle’s punt snap sailed over the head of punter Jon Ryan for a safety and two points for the 49ers.

The Seahawks’ miscue helped the Niners cut the lead to six points.

Yet San Francisco couldn’t take advantage of it, Kap was sacked for the fifth time and the Niners had to punt.

And a tired 49ers defense started to give up the inevitable big plays to close out the quarter.

Fourth Quarter

Seattle was back in San Francisco’s red zone to start the final frame of regulation. And the Seahawks were forced to settle for another field goal from Hauschka to increase Seattle’s lead 25-16.

The 49ers were forced to punt the following drive.

Seattle started going to its backups midway though the fourth quarter. With this, the Seahawks couldn’t move the ball and had to punt down two scores.

More from Niner Noise

San Francisco tried a trick play on the punt and managed to start the drive on Seattle’s 35-yard line.

And Kerley hauled in an amazing one-handed pass from Kaepernick to get the Niners to the Seahawks 5-yard line.

Kap later found tight end Garrett Celek for a touchdown pass to cut the game to two points.

The Seahawks managed to drive midfield on the following possession, with a few mild fights along the way. But San Francisco was forced to burn its remaining timeouts just before the two-minute warning.

Two first-down pickups ensured Seattle would come away with the victory, and San Francisco would tie a franchise-worst loss record.
