The Ugly

Quarterback Blaine Gabbert and the lack of any offensive weapons.

Enough said.

Gabbert was a mere 14-of-25 for just 119 yards and an interception (albeit, one which wide receiver Quinton Patton should have caught) for a measly 51.9 passer rating.

And what was he thinking here on this “read option?”

Gabbert has a paltry 68.6 passer rating on the season. And Pro Football Focus has him with a 45.4 mark, which ranks No. 34 out of 36 qualifying quarterbacks.

The lack of downfield targets also hurts, as PFF’s Jeff Deeney pointed out:

No 49ers receiver crested 40 yards in the effort.

The lack of offensive weaponry is significantly hindering San Francisco’s efforts. Not even head coach Chip Kelly’s offensive game plan can overcome the lack of talent the Niners have at the skill positions here.

So it’s not much of a surprise the 49ers couldn’t muster any sort of offensive rhythm until the game was already sealed.

The loss emulated similar defeats San Francisco suffered a year ago — games in which the outcome was effectively decided by the half, if not earlier.

Not a good look, as the Niners limp home to take on a surging Dallas Cowboys offense in Week 4.
