Colin Kaepernick’s Preseason Debut

All signs are pointing to quarterback Colin Kaepernick (arm) getting a shot at some on-field reps versus Green Bay.

Head coach Chip Kelly (h/t Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee) hasn’t named a starter for the position just yet, but Kelly did hint at Kaepernick being ready to go for Friday’s preseason contest.

Kaepernick is still behind in the QB competition with fellow signal-caller Blaine Gabbert. A healthy Gabbert has been able to partake in all the Niners’ offseason programs as well as working with the first-team units over two preseason games.

In the meantime, Kap has only been able to watch on the sidelines while recovering from a sore arm.

Kaepernick has a career-100.5 passer rating against the Packers, but he looked nothing like the elite quarterback — who once dominated Green Bay — the last time these two teams met.

More from Niner Noise

Friday’s bout may be the last best shot Kaepernick has to reclaim his starting role. With the fourth and final preseason game likely looking nothing like the preseason, Kap’s efforts may easily be seen as a do-or-die effort.

And all eyes will be watching.
