Right Guard

V1.0 Assessment:

Starter: Joshua Garnett

Backup: Andrew Tiller

V2.0 Assessment:

No changes.

The 49ers finally signed rookie guard Joshua Garnett, which shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise anyway.

Questions will still surface about Garnett’s adjustments to San Francisco’s zone-blocking scheme, and whether or not he can hold up in pass protection at the NFL level, but there is little doubt Garnett’s run-blocking abilities are among the best of rookie offensive linemen.

Garnett has been working with the third-string unit to start training camp, per Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, which isn’t surprising at this stage of his career.

The former Stanford standout will make the jump to starter soon.
