Right Tackle

V1.0 Assessment:

Starter: Erik Pears

Backup: Trent Brown

V2.0 Assessment:

Starter: Anthony Davis

Backup: Trent Brown

Right tackle Anthony Davis has been reinstated since our last depth-chart prediction, so the 49ers offensive line suddenly looks as if it will have three first-round draft picks making up the front-five group.

This is a big change and, while Davis has started out working with the third-string unit, a drop in weight means he should be able to maintain his health much better in 2016.

Grant Cohn of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat described how well Davis has been working in training camp by writing, “[He] held his ground during 1-on-1 pass-rushing drills against the 49ers’ most powerful pass rusher – Arik Armstead. Davis won every matchup.”

Not to be overlooked is second-year tackle Trent Brown who, despite some early offseason misgivings about his conditioning, has also looked good during camp so far, per Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

Davis still gets the nod, but having Brown as a serviceable backup isn’t a bad option either.
