The 49es extended their five game winning streak and a four game lead in the NFC West with a 20-10 victory over the Browns on Sunday.  The 49ers leaned on the defense again to keep the lead and hold off the Browns in the second half.  The 49ers played well in the first half with a 17-3 lead heading into halftime.  In the second half the 49ers offense was almost non-existent and played inconsistent throughout but luckily they have a high quality defense that was able to limit points scored by the Browns.  The 49ers were expected to win the [...]

   49ers 20 Browns 10 FINAL Week 8 is now in the books with the 49ers win over the Browns 20 to 10. The 49ers are now 6-1 for the first time since 1999 with their first 5 game winning streak since 2001.   Halftime: 49ers 17  Browns 3 It’s halftime in San Francisco and the 49ers lead the Browns 17  to 3. Here are my half time reactions to the first half and what the 49ers must do to win in the 2nd half. The entire defensive unit looks impressive for SF, from the line to the secondary the entire unit has been dominating. Colt McCoy hasn’t looked comfortable all game long with the 49ers defensive line and outside linebackers have been in his face almost every time he drops back to pass. At 5-1 the 49ers  come into week 8 with a commanding 3 game lead in the NFC West. Week 8 presents another opportunity for the team to separate themselves even further from the pack. While the 49ers  had one of the hardest schedules in the NFL early in the season they managed to get through at 5-1 suffering only 1 close loss to the Dallas Cowboys week 2. In recent seasons the 49ers have welcomed the bye week on their schedule as a time to regroup and somehow turn around a losing record in the second half of the season.  Last season they limped to their bye week with a losing record of 2-6.  The 49ers roared into the bye week this season with three straight come-from-behind road victories, a four-game winning streak and in first place in the NFC West with three game lead.  The 49ers will host the Browns (3-3) at Candlestick Park on Sunday who are coming off a win against the Seahawks last week.  [...]

As October ends the 49ers stand firm as the gatekeepers to the NFC West at 5-1, while the Seattle Seahawks come in a distant second with 2-4. Despite finishing last year in the playoffs, they entered the playoffs with the worst record in history. Pete Carroll decided to shake things up at the end of his first season by letting go of Matt Hasselback, who had finished his 10th season with the Seahawks. After much back and forth wide receiver Braylon Edwards  is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Browns and it is anybody’s guess if the wideout will play against his former team.  Through week 6 three out of the five players listed as questionable were active on Sunday yet only one played WR Michael Crabtree week 3.  49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Edwards would be a game time decision on Sunday.  My opinion, Harbaugh and the 49ers are bluffing  here and Edwards is going to play a big role in the game.   As the 49ers  prepare to take the field Sunday against the Cleveland Browns coming off a bye week I thought let’s take a look ahead at the 49ers  current 2012 free agent outlook.  The team has 21 players currently on its 53 man roster with contracts set to expire at the end of the season.  It would be 22 players but the team signed running back Frank Gore  to a 3 year extension during training camp.  There is also mutual interest in a new deal for corner back Carlos Rogers  who stated he has given his agent permission to negotiate [...]
