The San Francisco 49ers did not play over the weekend as they had their bye week, but they remained very much in the news with Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jauan Jennings reportedly shutting down a reunion even though San Francisco and Minnesota had a trade in place to make it happen.

Apparently, Jennings isn’t the only ex-Niner on the Vikings with a chip on his shoulder with regard to his old team.

Jennings shared a cryptic message on social media that read, “built for it just like the ancestors were,” which some interpreted as some sort of slight against San Francisco.

The fact former 49ers running back Jordan Mason reshared Jennings’ post only added further fuel to that fire.

Did Jordan Mason join Jauan Jennings at tossing shade at 49ers?

Mason was traded by the Niners to the Vikings after the 2024 season. It was a bit of a surprising move by San Francisco, since Mason filled in quite nicely for an injured Christian McCaffrey in 2024, but the 49ers were willing to move on from him. Mason had a solid 2025 campaign with Minnesota as he rushed for 758 yards and six touchdowns, while so far this season, he has 147 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Perhaps he has a bit more of a legitimate gripe with the Niners since he was traded by them, whereas Jennings signed with Minnesota in free agency. It hasn’t worked out all that well for Jennings in Minnesota as he has only six receptions for 54 yards on the season.

He’s essentially a non-factor in the Vikings' lackluster offense, but apparently, he is content there even though he’d almost certainly play a much larger role in San Francisco where he has chemistry with quarterback Brock Purdy, and there’s a greater need given the injuries to Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel, and Demarcus Robinson.

All of this just makes the Week 11 matchup between the 49ers and Vikings in Mexico City all the more exciting. Right now, both teams are 6-1, and that game could potentially end up determining who will be the No. 1 seed in the NFC at the end of the season, so a lot will be on the line.

Jennings and Mason clearly aren’t thrilled with how their time in San Francisco ended, so they’ll be motivated to have big games. The Niners will have to be ready and cannot take them for granted even if Minnesota’s offense has not been particularly strong so far this season.
