Well-traveled 49ers poised to smash the NFL road-trip record on 2026 schedule

Those frequent-flyer miles, though...

The San Francisco 49ers will always be one of the league's most-traveled teams on a year-to-year basis, which is the norm for pretty much every west coast team in light of the distances between NFL cities west of the Mississippi.

In 2026, however, the mileage is going to hit an all-time high.

The Niners are slated to play not just one, but two international games this season, likely opening up on the road against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, in the league's first-ever game down under.

While cool, that's going to be a brutal flight and time-zone acclimation for both San Francisco and L.A.

On top of that, though, the 49ers confirmed they'd have a second international game on their 2026 docket, returning to Mexico City, Mexico, for what'll likely be a "home" game for them against an undetermined opponent:

While the game in Mexico is nowhere near as extreme as the one in Australia, it'll nevertheless tally up the mileage traveled.

And into uncharted territory, too.

49ers poised to travel the most out of any NFL team ever

According to DraftKings, the Niners are about to become the league's most-traveled team this upcoming season by recording an unprecedented 38,100-plus miles over the course of 2026.

Previously, the Los Angeles Chargers held the record for traveling the most mileage in a single season with 37,086 miles logged, a feat recorded in 2025.

Again, it's not hard to understand why a west coast team would be on the tops of NFL travel miles, and with the league pushing to expand internationally, it'll ultimately point to more teams out west setting additional records.

Just like San Francisco will this season.

If there's some solace, at least the 49ers won't have to double back from Australia to one of the many games in Europe.
