The 49ers and Cowboys have never liked each other, and that was notably apparent on Sunday Night Football when a fight broke out between both teams.

The San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys aren't exactly friendly.

There are plenty of moments in this heated rivalry, going back to the 1970s and running through the 1980s and 1990s. Before going dormant for a while in the 2000s and 2010s, it appears that the hatred between these two squads is back.

Especially with the Niners having played a role in eliminating Dallas in the postseason in recent years.

For Week 8 on Sunday NIght Football, a 3-4 San Francisco squad wanted to make sure a 3-3 Cowboys team coming off a bye wasn't in position to bounce back in the NFC race for the playoffs.

While there's plenty of emotion already in the game, it didn't take long for fisticuffs to break out between the two teams.

Fight breaks out between 49ers and Cowboys at end of 1st quarter

Following a punt by 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowsky at the 2:44 mark of the first quarter, both sides appeared to get into a mix with each other midfield.

We can't show it here, but you can check out footage of the fight between Dallas and the Niners right here.

Understandably, that got the crowd at Levi's Stadium going. But the officials had to dish out penalties, and there were two offsetting calls for unnecessary roughness: one on linebacker Fred Warner and another on the Cowboys' Juanyeh Thomas.

Thankfully, nothing more came of the incident, and San Francisco could get back to looking at expanding on its early 3-0 lead.

Needless to say, there are still going to be plenty of tempers flaring between both teams.
