Robert Saleh-Liam Coen beef that boiled over with 49ers is clearly still simmering

These two do not like one another...

The NFL is conducting its Annual League Meeting in Phoenix this week, and San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York, general manager John Lynch, and head coach Kyle Shanahan have all spoken to the media.

While they have all provided some interesting news on the state of the franchise, one funny thing Niners fans may have clocked had to do with the annual head coach photo that is taken at the meeting.

As David Lombardi of the San Francisco Standard noted on social media in response to the photo, Shanahan is standing right next to Robert Saleh, which makes sense since he has has had two separate stints as Shanahan's defensive coordinator and is now currently the head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

Lombardi also noted that Saleh was standing about as far as possible from Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen:

This should not come as any surprise given the history those two have.

Last season, when the 49ers and Jags squared off in Week 4, in the lead up to the game, Saleh said that Coen and his staff were good at legally stealing signs from opponents.

There may have been some mind games or gamesmanship at play, or maybe Saleh was upset about the fact Coen was chosen for the job in Jacksonville over him.

No matter what it was, Coen certainly didn't love the shoutout, and the two exchanged heated words after Jacksonville beat the Niners 26-21. Saleh's language in the exchange was particularly colorful, and while he downplayed it when asked about it shortly thereafter, it's obvious that those two guys do not like one another.

That will at least make for some interesting moments between Saleh and Coen going forward since they will face each other twice a year now as head coaches of two AFC South teams. Maybe they can steal the crown of most acrimonious relationship between two NFL head coaches from Matt LaFleur and Ben Johnson in the NFC North.

Losing Saleh stings for the Niners because he and his staff did a heck of a job trying to piece things together on defense last season even with all of the injuries on that side of the ball.

There was hope Saleh might decide to stay with San Francisco for another year, but getting another head coaching opportunity was too good to pass up.

Now, the 49ers will hope that his replacement, Raheem Morris, can steer the ship in the right direction. Let's just hope he at least has healthier personnel to work with next season.

As for Coen, he had better be careful with his words to Saleh next season because we all know who would win in a dust-up between those two.
