After the first few weeks of the 2026 NFL new year passed, it became clear now-former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings wasn't going to sign anywhere anytime soon.
With a little over a month in between the start of free agency and the annual NFL Draft, teams in search of wide receiver help shifted their focus to the crop of incoming rookies rather than dishing out big-money contracts to still-available veterans on the open market.
Unfortunately for the Niners, Jennings not signing anywhere ultimately cost them a shot at a compensatory pick, thanks to the new league rule that declares free agents signing post-draft now don't count against the comp-pick formula.
San Francisco ultimately hopes it landed a Jennings replacement by drafting Ole Miss receiver De'Zhaun Stribling at No. 33 overall; a big-bodied blocker who's also significantly faster than his predecessor.
As for Jennings, he's yet to find a new team. But that might change soon.
Adam Schefter reports Vikings have interest in Jauan Jennings
There's expected to be a new wave of free-agent signings with the draft now in the books, and Jennings appears to be part of that wave.
According to a Tuesday report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Minnesota Vikings are hosting Jennings on an overnight visit, potentially exploring the idea of adding him to their offense:

Minnesota's draft primarily focused on defense, and it didn't bring aboard a wide receiver with any of its nine picks.
So, the thought of onboarding Jennings makes sense, particularly if he can be had at the right cost.
Granted, Jennings could have a wider market than just the Vikings at this point, and his last two years with the 49ers certainly indicated he can be a high-end WR2 on any team's depth chart. But, the lack of free-agent attention up to this point suggests the receiver's market might also not be as robust as he originally hoped.
Either way, it'd be a little odd to see Third and Jauan donning the purple and gold after serving the Niners so well for all those years.
