Running back Isaac Guerendo gave the San Francisco 49ers a scare in the fourth quarter of their Week 14 victory over the Chicago Bears.
The 49ers ended up with a 38-13 victory, but he left the game with what would be diagnosed as a foot sprain. His status for the 49ers' Thursday Night Football matchup against the Los Angeles Rams was up in the air early in the week.
With a running back room already down their No. 1 and No. 2 guys in Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason respectively, Guerendo was severely needed.
Ahead of TNF he was cleared to play and got his second career start. How has he fared in the first half against the Rams though?
On a night in which the rain is coming down on Levi's Stadium, there have already been 11 combined punts in the first half.
With offense being scarce for both sides, Guerendo has also been held in check.
In the first half Guerendo carried the ball eight times for 17 yards. After a two-touchdown game against the Bears, he's yet to see the end zone today.
The 49ers and Rams are tied at the half by a score of 3-3. Both teams will need to reexamine their offenses for the second half.
Guerendo will need to pick it up in the second half as well. If the running between the tackles is not getting it done, he will have to be a threat in the passing game.
Although very few running backs can replicate what McCaffrey does on offense, Guerendo will need to be able to pick yards after the catch on screen passes and underneath routes.
Guerendo should have a better second half after what was a "bizarre first half" according to Thursday Night Football commentator Al Michaels.
Look for Guerendo to finish the game with 70 total scrimmage yards and finally put a touchdown on the board in this game.
