Raiders deny 49ers the chance to feature Maxx Crosby bookend with Nick Bosa

It likely wouldn't have happened anyway.

There was a buzz the 49ers could go after Maxx Crosby, but it's not going to happen now after the Raiders made him very, very rich.

The San Francisco 49ers' recent trend toward getting both younger and cheaper pretty much means they weren't going to be too serious about trying to acquire one of the league's two best pass-rushers, Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns and Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Still, the thought of grabbing either of those two names to pair with All-Pro defensive end Nick Bosa was enticing.

Crosby, in particular, piqued the mind of Niners fans not long ago when he shed all kinds of praise upon the Bay Area, a move that potentially hinted he wouldn't mind heading to San Francisco in the wake of what'll likely be a lengthy Vegas rebuild.

As fun as that thought would have been, it's not happening now.

Maxx Crosby signs massive extension with Raiders, denying 49ers a chance to land him

Just days before the 2025 league new year began, NFL Network reported Las Vegas was inking the 27 year old to a massive contract extension:

The 49ers already made Bosa one of the NFL's highest-paid defenders just two offseasons ago, so somehow landing Crosby was going to be a pipe dream anyway.

Perhaps the Raiders' transaction for him just reinforced that.

Still, the thought of a Bosa-Crosby bookend at the line of scrimmage is pretty fun. And it would have been a massive blockbuster on the Niners' part, one fans would have ate up.

Alas, though, it won't happen.
